SYLC’s Plogging project is a traditional one that brings together several volunteers to promote environmental protection by cleaning up popular areas in Seoul.

On September 3rd, we organized the plogging once again around the Han River area, a space that is highly used by citizens for walking, picnics, biking, etc. For that reason, the park is constantly polluted by littering, and plogging is necessary not only to promote environmental protection awareness but also to increase the visibility of SYLC and attract more volunteers and potential members.

Besides the usual amount of trash left from daily activities, due to the heavy rains that occurred in August, the riversides suffered massive damage and a lot of trash remained in areas that were flooded. To clean the area and provide a better environment for the community, the 동작구자원봉사센터 (Dongjak-gu Volunteer Center) organized a Flood Recovery action, and SYLC members and volunteers gladly joined the community service.

All the volunteers received vests, gloves, plastic bags, and tongs, and for about an hour and a half, we picked up the trash along the Han River bank. Many senior people also joined in to clean dusted benches and fences.

Plogging is always a great opportunity to contribute to cleaning up the environment while chatting with friends and volunteers and walking in parks and along rivers enjoying the view. SYLC is proud to contribute to the environment and the community’s quality of life.

In partnership with Ocean Keepers (you can check their work here), SYLC will be holding the next plogging project in October on the beach! With this incredible partnership, we will also film an environmental protection video campaign. You can check out photos of the project on our social media Instagram, Facebook, and Linkedin, and don’t forget to follow us to keep updated on our upcoming projects!
