Winter is actually a warm season when we can care for our neighbors in need by delivering briquettes!
Last month, SYLC funlunteers gathered to join about 80 other young volunteers for our partner YVIS community service in Nowon-gu, Seoul. Though our faces got all black after a few hours of hard work, our hearts were filled with love and happiness.
YVIS (@yvis_official) is a young volunteer community that made remarkable outcomes and impact last year, including delivering a total of 45,600 briquettes to support 129 households. Thanks to the sponsorship of @MinishDentalHospital, we were able to deliver 4,000 briquettes to 20 households on January 14.
The delivery of briquettes during the winter is one of the most common volunteer projects in South Korea, given the low temperatures and the fact that residents of the mountain areas, mostly the elderly, do not have gas heating in their homes. Therefore, heating by briquettes is essential for them to have a more comfortable winter.
Even with the rain, for a little over two hours the volunteers demonstrated strong teamwork and coordination to efficiently deliver the briquettes. Delivering our love to the people in need during the cold winter was so much fun and meaningful!
