Combining fun and volunteer work never felt better

Date: March-June 2022 Author: Rania Ali

What is better than each doing their part to make where we live prettier, cleaner, and looking out for this mother we call earth? At Seoul young Leaders Club, we add fun to volunteer work.

It is no secret that the world is occupied with combating the ever-so-urgent environmental issue. At SYLC, we like to commit to doing our part to help make Seoul a city environmentally friendly and, most importantly, livable. Creating a livable place is not an easy job, especially with the taunting consequences of climate change. How do we take the initiative? With something called Plogging. Although humble with counted members, our club never fails to gather volunteers and organize Plogging (trash picking) events all around Seoul

Our choice locations vary from the Han River, The Olympic Park, and every little corner in this city. At Yeouido, we were joined by many motivated young students and Rotaractors where we spent hours cleaning the park around the river, had fun chats, connected with people from around the world, and as always, ended the day with a lovely lunch at a traditional Korean restaurant.

Ending our Plogging days with picnics has ever since become a tradition. We often order pizzas and beers and participate in the well-celebrated Ramen by the river tradition that the youngsters of Seoul love to do. If this is the case, I don’t know about you, but sign me up for Plogging any day!
