The last session of SYLC’s cultural and educative project “Explore the World” took place on Saturday, April 29th.
The featured countries were Belgium and Germany, which were presented by our cultural ambassadors Elise, a volunteer that has been actively participating in SYLC’s activities, and SYLC members Jin, Tom, and Tom’s wife who’s kindly volunteered to support the event. In addition to the children, the volunteers were able to learn fun facts about the countries, their cultures, and customs.
Did you know that Belgians speak 3 languages? French, Dutch, and German! We also learned that Belgium is a small country, but produces more than 22.000 tons of chocolate per year! Isn’t it amazing? We were lucky enough to try some delicious Belgian biscuits and chocolate. For Germany, besides learning awesome facts about the country, the kids received amazing gifts kindly donated by the Germany Embassy, such as calendars and block notes. We also had a great time playing a car racing game!
The upcoming May session may explore Colombia & Sri Lanka (TBD). If you’d like to represent your country and/or recommend someone you know to host a session for our project, feel free to reach out to us on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, or by email at rotarysylc@gmail.com.
