SYLC & Bada Keepers went beach cleaning at Mallipo Beach

Date: October 22-23, 2022 Author: Jessica Machado

SYLC’s team of young change-makers and ‘funlunteers’ is growing and promoting community service in new places.

    Guidance before beach cleaning

On the 22nd and 23rd of October, SYLC members in partnership with Bada Keepers and invited volunteers went to Taean County, to carry out beach plogging at Mallipo Beach. The idea came from the Bada Keepers, which is a youth project aiming to clean up Korean beaches. The project leader, Sookyung, had the idea to start the beach cleaning activities due to an accident with a surfer caused by trash on the beach and in the sea. We love youth initiatives!

We gathered several volunteers to clean the beach and managed to remove a lot of trash while having fun and recording awareness videos about environmental protection (it will be released soon, stay tuned!). It was a refreshing experience!

Since we went to the beach, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to have a good time with our members, friends, and volunteers. After cleaning up Mallipo Beach, SYLC held a membership training to welcome new members and volunteers. We had a delicious Korean barbecue dinner, lots of conversation, played games, and dynamics to get to know each other better. It was an opportunity to break the routine, interact and have fun with young volunteers who inspire and seek to improve the community and protect our environment.

Our huge thanks to all the friends and volunteers who participated, especially to Bada Keeper for co-organizing the project, and the Korea Green Fund for supporting our accommodation.
